Entry 1: Descriptive Reflection: Strengths and Challenges in Communicating

During a lesson, we were asked what were our strength and challenges we face when communicating with others. I struggled to find the answer for awhile as this is the first time I was asked what were my strengths. I had always knew what the challenges I face was but I did not really know what I could call my strength. But after thinking about it, I think that my strength is that I am able to communicate with others neutrally without a problem.

Being able to communicate with others from a neutral point means that you do not put your personal feelings into the picture even if you really dislike the other party. It may not seem much but I think it is a useful trait to have. When working with someone you dislike you would tend to avoid making contact with them as much as possible, however I am willing to make contact with them and help them if needed without a problem.

The challenges I faced is that I have trouble striking up a conversation with someone and speaking up without being called. This has been a issue I have faced for a long time, I do not feel comfortable striking up a conversation with someone I do not know well enough. Often people have said that I too quiet at times because of this.

There are 2 objective I hoped to achieve by the end of this course. The first is to improve my communication ability with others and being able to take the initiative. The second is to become a better listener to others to avoid any miscommunication.

  1. A well organised post that is easy to understand! The content is clear and well expressed.

I like how you can stay neutral and not let your personal feelings get to you when you are doing work. Sometimes our feelings may overwhelmed us and at those times, we tend to make irrational decisions that we will regret later. Being able to keep your feelings controlled and staying neutral and calm is a good trait to have especially in a group project. It is professional and it helps get the work done quickly when you're doing a group work. To be able to work with any people and taking the time to help them regardless of your personal feelings with them, is a really good strength to have and it is something that I should learn from you too!

  2. An interesting insight you have.

I am glad that you managed to find out about your strengths after going through your struggles. I like how you can stay neutral and not involve your feelings when it comes to work and communication. Sometimes, staying neutral is a bad idea, especially when there are some misunderstandings in communication, it may be best to clarify and solve it as soon as possible. This can help both parties' understanding and can even strengthen their relationship. To do this, you need to be able to speak up whenever you need to.

Hopefully, I hope that you can achieve your goal and become a better speaker, especially when communicating with other people.
