Entry 2:Evaluating Listening Skills and Nonverbal Behavior February 13, 2018

I recently happened upon a group meeting between for a project while I was out for lunch with my friends. Remembering I had to write up about this entry I paid attention to their conversation and took note of their actions.

It was a group of 4 and they were all guys. At the start all of the members were actively giving out ideas on what they should do. They all looked excited and interested at this point as I could see from their facial expression and enthusiasm. The next phase however was where things started to go downhill and that was Choosing what to do from the given ideas. Naturally everyone would want their idea to get selected and would be disappointed if it did not get chosen. One member in particular wasn't too happy with his idea not being chosen and decided to be spoilsport. He started to take out his phone and play instead of taking part. I could tell that he was not interested anymore and probably will not listen to single word his team is saying. I later heard from a friend that he did not do any work and blame his team for not giving any work.

Evaluating the whole event, we can break down and see some influences.
-Incapability to accept denial.
In the current age, many parents have a stable job may be too busy to look after their own kids.
To make up for it they mostly just get the kid whatever they want. As the kids grow some would start to take things for granted and will develop a mindset that they will always get what they want. As they lack their parents teachings, they are unable to accept it when they are denied.
-Playing of phone
The common action of playing our phone is largely due to the advancement of technology. Technology of has made our life simpler but has also take away things from us as well. Due to its capibities we start to get more and more reliant on it, you start to doubt yourself more and will start to be anxious without it.

In conclusion there are many things that influences listening or why some one act in a particular way.

  1. Good observation and able to break down the event into points.

I think that incapability to accept denial is lacking parent teaching and individual's mindset too. There are also some external factors too. Most common is the person's surrounding, friends. In relationship, families is the closest, next will be friends. If one denied parents teaching, the person most likely follow friends example. For example, one of my friend always look down on his classmate because they are not rich compare to his neighbor's kids. The reason that I am his friend is because I am useful for him or her.
